MLM/Network Marketing? Quit or Fail? Which is it?

Many independent studies show that 97% to 99% of participants in MLM/Network Marketing do not make a profit. Is it fair to say that the person is a quitter and they failed because of lack of participation? Is the structure set up for failure it self? Either way, is it fair to say that many of the 97%+ do give the marketing plan much effort (even spending many $$$ of their own money for promotion) and still fail to make a profit? We live in a world where we can create our own success. MLM/Network Marketing claims to offer a great opportunity for the average person to become successful. Why is it that 97% fail? Is it designed to attract quitters and failures?

  1. In MLM companies you really only make money if you are at the top of the list. Check out rankfirstprocom/makemoney.html it isn't an MLM company which is a good thing because it is really easy to make money.
  2. It attracts those that are looking for that "quick buck" unfortunately and sadly caters to getting as much out of those below you as possible. The average person does not have the ability nor the drive to "make it" in MLM/Network Marketing programs. The opportunity is there, but it's just like a job - you have to put forth immense amounts of efforts to get the ball rolling. The amount of time they tell you that you can spend "doing the business" is not entirely accurate for the beginner. Those times spent per week are likely from those that set a good base of folks in their business already ( ie, the guys at the top down to the middle ). The truth isn't provided 100% upfront, so people fail/quit when they realize how much money and/or time investment they will realistically have to put forth. (In one specific MLM, they don't tell you the entire truth about where the bulk of their income is made - at least they didn't used to. I hear they now tell you upfront that it IS a source of income, whereas in the past, they flat out denied it being a source)
  3. the reason why people in the industry fail is cuz no one takes personal responsibility for their actions... failure depends on many variables, but ultimately it's upon the individual... The Network Marketing Industry attracts people who are new to the business model, and have no prior business experience... and when they don't receive the support they need from their upline to grow their organization they quit... OR they fail to take action on what is taught... and it is true, if one applies themselves in the industry, you are bound to make a substantial income... BUT, nothing happens overnight...it's a process...there's a learning curve...and you must be willing to go through it otherwise you are bound to fail...look at the most successful MLMers do you think they were any different than you when they started...NO but what separates them from those who failed is because they opened their minds & learned what it took to build a successful biz...they weren't willing to quit in face of adversity whatever it may be and they eventually made it through CONSTANT & CONSISTENT EDUCATION... that right there friends is the key to success in the industry!!!
  4. You have to be willing to do what most others will not. You must have the level of DESIRE to achieve your dreams, you have to do whatever it takes to win. Persistance and Consistance over time. 5. I think from what I've seen most quit (usually before they really get started). The rest either fade out or get worn out trying to become successful. MLM/Network marketing is a learned skill and is a real business (if the company isn't a scam, check out http://www.mlmwatchdog.com/Library.html ) then folks who "sign up" are usually just happy they found an opportunity to just make a few extra bucks. There is always a "fast track guy" who tries to hype it up and bring in all his family and 'buds' using the scheme but the rubber meets the road if no actual product is being bought and used up those 'numbers' added to the roll (downlines) won't add up to returns you can count on staying for the long haul. I really don't think that the MLM marketing concept is wrong or doomed to failure, it is just another form of "getting into business for yourself" and using word of mouth advertising to build your business to some level of success. I've been in several plans and some go nowhere fast and others have been moderately successful. One a few years back actually produced $1,000 monthly cheques from downline and folks we had sponsored were willing to look you in the eye and call you friend. We enjoyed the 'extra' money but never guit our day job. Three years into it and the company hit an economic glitch and rolled into another which was just not the same. So some opportunities actually leave you. I'd say you've got to "work it" hard with "hard work" NOT 'hard sell' for a good 4 to 6 months to start reaping any rewards. If you're not getting anywhere in 4 to 6 months working diligently then it's not likely "your thing". But that's the way business is, not every business makes it even with big investments of money put in. The wrong location, timing, committement, product failures and costs of doing business are all a factor even for MLM. A lot of folks doing MLM are happy with a few hundreds of dollars they get for the low hours put in but it is all an unknown until you try and can fall away from you at anytime. I definitely wouldn't call MLM a secure opportunity until you've got many layers and customers which takes time. Even then a downline can roll out and over into another company or "opportunity" and you can't stop it if it happens. I've known but a handful of real success stories and usually they are folks who weren't even shooting for those stars but it came to them anyways. Just like the brick&mortar business venture, nothings for sure and a fire, a products recall, internal theft, anything can happen. Good or bad. Lots of MLM companies are still going after many many years but they mostly are all the same in that they "churn" people. Sorta like the life insurance business does. Lots come in but few stay at it. Say, have you ever had a paper route? Not many young entrepreuners staying in that one year after year. So it is all the same thing, some do some don't, some will some won't. Nice to hear the big success stories but that's human nuture. A lot of folks buy the lottery, most don't expect to win and by the numbers, few will. That's MLM, a business opportunity that costs very little in real dollars so it works great, if not you can just quit or fade out. Did you fail, not if you tried and hey everyone should quit if it's not working out, that's the best part of MLM you get to get out before you loose your shirt, after all you can at least wash it with the all the soap you've got left over.
  6. It is my opinion that it is both failure and quitting. Failure usually comes right before the decision to quit. With that said, the reason people fail in this marketing style is due to lack of knowledge or study (due diligence) prior to getting involved. This style of business is set up to attract people based on hype. I don't think it is fair to call 97% who have not made a dime failures or quitters. Many leave the the industry soon after finding out they are not cut out for it. Many of those passing judgment on the 97% are in the 97% crowd themselves and are unwilling to believe statistics. If the business model was so great then the issue with MLM/Network Marketing would be more about exponential growth then the 97% failure rate. Many of the MLM/Network Marketing downline structures would exceed the worlds population under 30 levels. I agree with Jeff and somewhat agree with Shehzeb. I agree with Shehzeb that even the successful in MLM start out the same as the 97% who fail. The difference is that one learns to accept the business model and one does not. I do not think that one who choses to leave the industry is any less of a person. In fact there are far better forms of business with little start up in my opinion.
  7. OK most of answers have it partiailly correct but these Gurus who say they have MLM systems are LYING ! A true MLM marketing and networking system has something that creates a residual income something that can be used over n over again by the masses ! MLM has been around before the internet was born in real world ! Even tho one joker trying to get me into his comapny argued with me that it's not MLM in real world that built Empires ! EXCUSE me Sir i said TO HIM it is exactly the Same thing ! LETS start with a billion doallar Giant called MAC DONALD's IT all started from one person who bought out the name from the original MAC Donalds and created a world wide franchise today ! Becuse HE had a product that was residual people had to go back and buy it again and again ! EVERY THING else is a pyramid scheme where only the ones at top make the money because the ones who come in later will not have a customer base because the product is a one time purchase and all the suckers got sold by the ones above you ! SO what is something that will be residual for YOU that has to be purchased over n over again ! OK 1st thing is HARD Goods , everything from A to Z electronics, jewelery, make up , perfumes, after shaves, health products etc... these are things that have to be bought over n over again well not jewelry unless it's costume jewelry that wears out ! Then there is telecommuncations because they pay a bill every month and you earn from every customer you get world wide ! However thats very costly to get into that business $500 plus $150 a year for your own websites and hosting fees ! BUT in reality cheap because the $500 is a one time fee and you get full contact with everyone in your team to help you progress and learn from the blue prints that they have been making money with ! SO thats it thats MLM the right way something that is FREE or low cost where you can equal or surpass the ones in your upline ! I have my yahoo 360 blog made for those of YOU seeking to create YOUR own residual lifetime income with the NEW WEB 2.0 thats coming on july 1st !
  8. It depends what the MLM company is selling! Most MLM companies make their money from the people that are involved with them. Some make their money a little from both, but more from the products or service they sell. I'm with ITV Ventures and so far I've had no problems with this company. It's legit, unique and the customers call you after they've watched one of our 30 minute infomercials describing the product. Go to our site and see for yourself: http://itvworkfromhome.com
  9. With MLM's, there are so many factors involved such as market demand and trend, quality products, marketing systems, training and on going support, etc etc. If you have all of that in place then it comes down to the drive and desire of the individual. What you put into your own business is what you're going to get out of it, be it an MLM or not. If the individual can see the dream, is willing to work with their up lines to achieve those goals and is wanting to promote, they really can't miss if everything else is in place as well.
