What forms do I need for income tax if I am an Independent Consultant in a direct sales business? CANADA TAX!

I work casually as an Independent Consultant in the direct sales business ( avon, toys, etc, that kind of thing). How do I claim my income on my income taxes? Is there a certain form I have to fill out with a ton of info, or can I basically say, here is my net result after all my expenses are calculated into the mix? Canadian tax info only please!

  1. If you are NOT an employee (ie, you don't get a T4, and your income taxes are not deducted form your pay) then you are self-employed. You need to declare your income as self-employment income. You actually need to fill out several forms, and you need to be able to document your expenses. Here is the CRA page on how to file your taxes, and what kind of business records you need to keep: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tax/business/topics/solepartner/menu-e.html Please note that if you haven't been keeping proper records all year, it might be best to visit an accountant who specializes in small businesses to do your taxes this year, and show you how to do your record keeping in the future.
  2. If you have a profit and loss statement its going to be a big help. Plus you'll need a listing of all of your categorized expenses (ie phone, parking, cost of goods sold) you then go through line 135-142 of your return and lines 162-170 of your T1 return.
