Are MLM's (Multi Level Marketing) companies legit?
My friend invited me to a join a MLM (Networking) Job, and said I could earn as much as $400 US a week. Could it be too good to be true?

- you can check the company out and see, but there are plenty of legit ones. my father actually was big in this industry for years.... has written books on it and is highly respected in it. but i saw what it took for him to build his business from ground up and its a ton of hard work... always on the phone or out and about talking to people... giving them your sales pitch hustle.... i don't recommend this type of business... very few people make really great consistent money. Its not easy because you always have to hustle. But if you are good at talking and don't mind doing it to random people again and again and again and you have the ambition to stick with it... then sure. I'd say its a lot more hype than anything.
- They are legitimate companies. (I'd name some, but I'm not sure of the Yahoo rules) What I can say, is that it can be difficult, nearly impossible to get enough people on your line. Most people don't want to get involved in sales. I have also found that the products these companies want you to sell can be found much cheaper in stores-so that is another problem. Competitive prices. You will also find, depending on what company you are with, that you will spend way more money than what you will actually make. Most people drop out. because of that. I know that years ago, I spent a lot of money on 3 different companies, and made nothing. The companies made a lot of money off of me-that's for sure. I found that when I sold things on my own (Especially jewelry) I made more money. And now that the subject has come up, I just may go back to doing that on the side. (smiles)
- MLM company's are legit, however, all MLM companies have people who represent them. You have to realize that the people (representatives) that represent them aren't always truthful. It's like if you work for a company that has a reputation for integrity and you go out and misrepresent the company. Then there are some MLM companies that are a fraud but they're usually easy to spot if you know what to look for. Some MLM companies involve themselves with Pyramid Schemes, Ponzi's, False Billing, Matrix, or even Chain Letters. First and formost do you research on the company itself because you can't ALWAYS believe what the rep is saying to you. After all they would sometimes say what you want to hear if they think you'll join under them. It is also possible to earn $400 a week but it doesn't happen often.
